Lume Cube Studio Panel Pro — image 1

Why we chose this

We've used this on three product shoots and a podcast set, and it's been the most-used light in each setup. The combination of color accuracy, portability, and price is unusual — most lights nail two of those three. The Studio Panel Pro hits all three.

The review

Lume Cube's Studio Panel Pro is the panel light that finally hits the sweet spot for hybrid shooters — big enough to be a key light on a person at six feet, small enough to live in the bottom of a camera bag, and high-CRI enough (97+) that colorists won't yell at you. The bicolor temperature range is 2500K-10000K with a TLCI of 97, and the new app-based control means you can drive it from a phone for off-camera flash use without crawling behind the panel to tweak. Battery life on the included Sony NP-F970 dock is around two hours at full output, longer at sensible levels, and the magnetic gel system means you can pop on a CTO or diffusion without taping anything. The build is aluminum with a proper Bowens mount for softbox attachment, and the price is honest for the spec sheet — easily half what an Aputure 200x costs and noticeably more portable.
