Why we chose this
Power stations sell on watt-hours, but the real-world experience is about whether you can extend runtime when you need to. The Tank 200 is the first expansion that connects cleanly, charges fast, and supports the kind of cycle life that justifies the cost. For people already in the Goal Zero ecosystem, it's the upgrade we'd recommend.
The review
The Yeti Tank 200 is a 2kWh expansion battery that connects to a Goal Zero Yeti power station (or, with the new universal adapter, to certain non-Goal-Zero stations) to triple-plus your runtime in the field. The LiFePO4 chemistry means safety for indoor use and a 10-year usable life, the IP65 rating means it can live outside a tent without being precious about it, and the modular design lets you chain up to four Tanks together for 8kWh of total expansion. The use case is van life and basecamp camping, where the original station handles AC loads and the Tank quietly extends the runtime. We've run a fridge, a CPAP, and laptop charging for four straight days on a Yeti 1500X + Tank 200 + 200W solar input, without ever dipping below 60% capacity. For people doing actual off-grid work or recreation, this is the difference between two days and a week.
